American Steam Railroad proudly presents Steve Wickersham as our next Legends of Steam keynote speaker.

From his early days with the American Freedom Train, to becoming the Chief Mechanical Officer for the 2101 when restored for the Chessie Steam Special, and then continuing as CMO with the C&O 614’s rebuild for the Chessie Safety Express, Steve has not only completely rebuilt these locomotives from the ground up, but was also the engineer and fireman on many occasions.

Come hear his first hand stories of the 30 day miracle, his many experiences in the cab of the AFT 1, the challenges of rebuilding the 2101 into the Chessie Steam Special, his hand on the throttle as the 2101 conquered the legendary grade at Sandpatch, and charged through the New River Gorge.

Then, get detailed first-hand knowledge of the fire damage the 2101 suffered, and what it took to bring the 614 back to the high iron after the trade was made.

In the end, you will hear Steve’s comparisons as he took the 614 on many of the same trips with comparable tonnage that the 2101 was tasked to do.
