State of Fire Up 2100

We’ve posted a progress report for work performed on 2100 this year. Click here to read the full report.

Here are a few details:

  • 2100’s stoker has been returned to the 2100 restoration facility, has been tested and found to be ready for service upon reinstallation in the tender.
  • Completion of firebox ultrasound examination and engineering analysis. Stay tuned for our next major announcement regarding this work.
  • The final stage of the mechanical evaluation of the 2100’s tender and running gear has been completed.

2016 Year in Review

The American Steam Railroad Preservation Association is proud to present our 2016 year in review. We’ve accomplished a lot in 2016 and we’re quite proud of how far we’ve come. We’ve still got a long way to go with Reading Company no. 2100 and Frisco Mikado no. 1352, but with your support, we can bring these steam locomotives back to life and get them back to what they’re supposed to be doing…Hauling trains.

Lionel teams with American Steam Railroad

In 2015, Lionel teamed with the American Steam Railroad (ASR) to create new measurements and documentation for their new Reading T-1 models.
Featured on pages 42 and 43 of Lionel’s new catalog, model railroads everywhere can own Reading no. 2100 as part of Lionel’s LEGACY STEAM product line.

“Two mighty Northerns grace the catalog this year, starting with the Reading T1. Lionel is working with the American Steam Railroad to ensure the accuracy of this completely retooled model – now available for the first time with LEGACY and Whistle Steam.”

Fundraising for Reading 2100 kicked off

Following the cross-country relocation of a historic steam locomotive from Richland, Washington to Cleveland, Ohio, the American Steam Railroad Preservation Association (ASR) announces the official start of its capital campaign to rebuild Reading Company no. 2100.

“After conducting a detailed inspection of the engine, we’re ready to officially kick off the fundraising and restoration phase of Fire Up 2100,” explained Steven Harvey, President of ASR.

As part of Fire Up 2100, ASR has created the $21.00 Campaign, where supporters can commit $21.00 a month to the project for a year. Donors can sign up to contribute $21.00 or any reoccurring amount automatically online. Reoccurring donors are eligible for perks including merchandise, advance ticket sales and throttle time with 2100. For more information or to donate, visit
